ReelStack follows an open-core model: a source-available core plus optional proprietary premium modules.
Source-available core
The ReelStack core is licensed under the Elastic License 2.0 (ELv2). You can read every line, self-host it, fork it, and extend it for your own use. ELv2 is source-available, not an OSI “open source” license: it forbids offering ReelStack as a hosted/managed service to third parties and forbids removing or altering the licensing functionality.
Proprietary premium modules
The premium modules (advanced layouts, cards, characters, and other paid capabilities) are proprietary and distributed separately. They are not covered by the Elastic License 2.0.
